Area

Putney

The official finishing point for the Oxford and Cambridge boat race, this normally sleepy suburb sees a flurry of excitement each year as two of the greatest non-professional rowing teams in the world battle it out. The race finishes just past gorgeous local pub The Ship, one of many tranquil riverside pubs in the area. Indeed, this leafy riverside neighbourhood once boasted a brewery which had been in continuous use for over 500 years until its closure in 2015.

As well as Mortlake station, there's a bus on the doorstep that will whisk you into Richmond, or to Hammersmith, with its excellent transport links to the city and Heathrow Airport. A dog usually lives here so not suited to allergies. Pets are welcome on request. An extra mattress is available in the twin room. There's a walk-in larder (not pictured) that you're welcome to use for the odd home-cooked meal. Please just use it sparingly, as these are the family's personal supplies.
